The Friday List and the races

1.23.2014

Up there with small town shows, country picnic race meetings are one of my favourite things. I remember dressing up to go to the Mudgee races when we were kids and still think it's one of the most fun ways to spend a Saturday. So of course was just a bit excited when last weekend rolled around bringing a perfect, if scorching day for the annual Orange Picnic Races meeting. Always a great catch up with local friends, Tim and I had a great day, sampled some local bubbles (though just the one glass for moi as designated driver), lost a few dollars to the bookies and enjoyed lovely Millamolong cordial with a tasting plate from the Agrestic Grocer's pop-up stand (pictured above).

The Friday List

We have some very special guests coming to stay this weekend (that's you Ms Sammie and co) and I'm going to make us all these fig tartlets with herbs and honey. And perhaps we might kick off one meal with this warm brie - what beautiful images (as always) from The Forest Feast. Later we will go blackberry picking for this hazlenut and blackberry galette

It's been hot this week at home, and dry - but not quite this bad. I feel for you Emma!

Apparently, it's national chocolate cake day in America this coming Monday, let's help them celebrate with this collection of confections via Oh Happy Day

Speaking of special days, it's ours on Sunday! Happy Australia day and happy pavlova making everyone.

Have bookmarked this orange chocolate tart from Happy Yolks. The photography in this blog always blows me away - so so beautiful.

Armchair travel time - Off we go to Roussillon in France then to Russia through the eyes of this wonderful photographer. And have you ever fancied skipping off to live on a houseboat? If not, this gallery of images will get you started. Or let your foodie freak flag fly with this tour of America's strangest restaurants.

I loved this gallery of images from two pastry chefs at home in San Fransico via The Selby

Am definitely making a bunch of these babies for breakfast next week as we brave the year's first week of school

Oh for this kitchen

Online mag Grounded's latest issue is just gorgeous.

Looking forward to following Inner Pickle's weekly posts celebrating that 2014 is The International Year of Family Farming

  3. Hi Sophie, I am enjoying your blog but find it hard to read as the black print is fine and the blue is very faint. Cheers Rosalie

  5. I pashed a burly farmer at the Orange Picnic Races in 1992. I would have married him on the spot if he'd have asked (he didn't). x
