The August List

Team Hansen is heading off to Griffith tomorrow for the town's annual Festa delle Salsicce and my last producer interview for 'the book'. I was just speaking with one of the festival's organisers who tells me that this year's competition has been a 'strong year for salami' and will report back with pics and all the winners on Monday.

In the meantime, here's a collection of light reading for the weekend...it is, er, rather comprehensive and a rather telling summary of how much time I've been spending pottering around the interwebs this week when I should have been working or doing laundry. In any case, I say it's all in the name of research, and surely that's semi-legitimate?

• I just posted this recipe for the above frozen blood orange and rhubarb yogurt over on Village Voices.
• Thanks to The Design Files, I've now discovered and fallen for Lushloves, a  slick Australian food blog full of beautiful recipes. Can't wait to try the toasted vanilla spelt muesli and author Gemma's take on old school apricot delight.
• The Little Gnomes Home is another welcome discovery. I loved this post - what a gorgeous 1st birthday party...
• Lunchlady completes this trifecta of newly discovered Australian food blogs. This is a gorgeous, brand new space already filling up with baking recipes written with lunchboxes in mind.
• This for lunch? Grilled spring vegetable tacos with cauliflower tortillas by Roost. Yes please 
• Or grilled pizza? Beautiful pics and recipes from Happy Yolks.
• I'm totally on board with the idea of breakfast cake, even if this version isn't quite in sync with our season here in Australia at the moment.
• Island Menu is always breathtakingly beautiful and this post is no exception - what stunning images.
• Inspired by Island Menu's imagery above, I'm going to pay close attention to these these tips for taking great food pics from the pros at The Food Dept.
• This photo essay would have been a fun styling job; "Meals Interrupted" .
• Always on the look out for a good apron (because I seem to live in them), I'm a bit keen on this spotty one from Hedley & Bennet. Check out their blog....these guys throw a good apron party!

• The Guardian Newspaper's Food tumblr is fantastic, a tempting 'short order' of all the features on the main site.
• I love these polenta biscuits and can't wait to try Emiko Davies recipe for this Italian classic.
• Lets celebrate blood orange season with this fancy quinoa, kale and blood orange salad from the Edible Perspective.
• Or maybe we could make a braided blueberry bread like this one from Pastry Affair. I'm going to try this with apples and pears too.
• Every post from Local Milk is more beautiful than the last - take a look at this most entry, or perhaps this one with cornmeal brown butter scones and lavender lemon curd. Just stunning. 
• Pip Lincolne is writing another book and I can't wait for it to be released. I loved this post about the writing process and am so happy about her introduction to the awesome 750words.com
• Still on the sometimes seemingly impossible task of getting words down on paper, and because it's of particular interest to me at the moment, here's a great piece on 'gesture writing' from Rachel Howard. I found it really helpful and came to it via Sweet Amandine. 
• Alex Atala, South America's most famous chef visits the Amazon to shine a light on the incredible indigenous food culture there - really great article.
