1803 Open Studio

3.19.2014

My sister-in-law Penny (below), hosted her first 1803 Open Studio in Sydney last Friday. 1803 Artisan Deer Design is the business she started last year, using antler and deer from our farm here in Orange and transforming both into hand-crafted pieces that are all unique and seriously beautiful.

Working with artisans from all over Australia, the range includes bags and cushions hand-made by Jarren Borghero (below with Penny). You can read about the collaborations Penny has developed on the 1803 story pages.

Recently Penny and her husband Campbell gave their Sydney home a bit of a face lift and this included turning one space in particular into the 1803 Studio or showroom. So to celebrate and to show off just how good all the 1803 pieces are looking, Pen hosted a bit of a do last Friday. We were there to help celebrate and of course brought lots of our Mandagery Creek Venison which was served straight off the barbecue with crisp bread, poached quince and chutney - perfect.

My mother-in-law Judith Hansen brought down a case or two of specially labelled Hansens' Half-Acre Merlot, a boot load of Philip Shaw Wines, fresh produce from The Agrestic Grocer and a basket of saffron cap mushrooms from her garden. All up we think it was a pretty great showcase of all the great stuff coming out of Orange these days! The 1803 collection can be viewed and shopped via 1803's online store. Or, you could drop in to the studio yourself if in Sydney on April 5....

MARKET NEWS - PYRMONT, APRIL 5

Because of commitments here in Orange during F.O.O.D Week (April 4-13); we unfortunately can’t make it to Sydney for the Sydney Morning Herald Growers Market at Pyrmont on April 5.

BUT - we have an alternative option for any regulars who would still like to stock up on beautiful Mandagery Creek Venison that day! Simply email us with your order and then come to collect it on that afternoon from the 1803 studio. A great opportunity to stock up on our beautiful venison and browse the 1803 range. We understand that this may not suit everybody but it is a good chance to keep the lines of distribution open for the month and hopefully give our friends the chance to take a look at a different side to our family’s deer farm! If interested, please email Tim for an order form and price list (tim@mandagerycreek.com.au).

  1. what a nice color blend of orange and deep red……wonderful - we Northern hemispheric people would now do almost anything for a glow of sun like that!
